At Diamond Dental Antalya, we often encounter challenging cases that require careful planning and expertise. One such case involved our patient, Mr. Serik, a 37-year-old with diabetes and bruxism, who came to us with significant dental issues. Here’s how we approached his treatment.
Initial Assessment and Challenges
When Serik first visited our clinic in late 2020, he reported loose and unstable dental implants that had been placed at another clinic. After conducting a thorough clinical examination, including 3D imaging and X-rays, we discovered that three of his implants were surrounded by infection. Additionally, his natural teeth were also affected by infection, and he was suffering from advanced gum disease (Periodontitis).
Diabetes Complications and Treatment Delay
Our comprehensive assessment revealed that Serik’s diabetes was not well-controlled, with high hemoglobin A1C levels. This made it impossible to begin treatment immediately, as high blood sugar levels increase the risk of complications during and after dental procedures. We advised Serik to follow a strict diet and exercise regimen to bring his hemoglobin A1C levels within a safe range.
Two Years of Preparation and Monitoring
Serik was determined to proceed with his dental treatment. For the next two years, he adhered to his diet and exercise plan, regularly visiting our clinic for check-ups. During this period, we closely monitored his hemoglobin A1C levels to ensure they were stable enough for us to safely proceed with his dental implant treatment.
Treatment Decision: All-on-4 Dental Implants
Once Serik’s hemoglobin A1C levels stabilized, we decided to move forward with the treatment. Given his age and desire to maintain a normal social life, we opted for the All-on-4 dental implant system. In a single session, we removed his old, infected implants, extracted the affected teeth, and placed the All-on-4 dental implants. To ensure he could continue his daily activities without interruption, we also provided him with fixed temporary teeth during the same session.
Addressing Bruxism Complications
During the treatment process, Serik’s bruxism (teeth grinding) caused him to break two of the temporary teeth. To address this, we provided temporomandibular joint therapy and rehabilitation, which helped manage his bruxism and protect his new implants and teeth.
A Happy and Healthy Outcome
Today, Serik is much happier and can eat normally again, without any discomfort or worry. His journey from unstable implants and severe gum disease to a healthy, confident smile is a testament to the power of perseverance and expert dental care.
At Diamond Dental Antalya, we take pride in our ability to handle complex cases like Serik’s, ensuring our patients leave with not just a new smile, but a renewed sense of confidence and well-being.
"We have been conducting regular check-ups for Serik's dental treatment for 4 years, and we are still continuing with his bruxism treatment. Additionally, we are monitoring his diet programs to ensure that his diabetes does not reach elevated levels again."
