Most people don’t realise that their gum are receding because its such a slow and subtle process. Gum recession occurs when the gum tissue wears away, exposing the root of your tooth. You might experience heightened sensitivity and visually notice that your teeth appear longer and more exposed.

A gum graft is quick to perform because it’s a simple surgery where your dentist will use health gum tissue from the roof of the mouth and rebuild the affected area.

How is a gum graft performed?

You have a number of gum grafts available and we will recommend the best treatment for your individual circumstances.

The area is numbed using local anaesthetic and then tissue is taken from the roof of your mouth. The removed tissue will then be stitched over existing gum tissue to cover exposed root.

Post procedure, over the counter medications may be required to alleviate any discomfort. If you require something stronger, we can prescribe something stronger.

Healing can take 1 – 2 weeks, depending on the types of surgery you’ve had.
