What is an Aligner?

Aligners Turkey

We can correct misaligned teeth, crooked teeth, spaced teeth, and overlapping teeth with orthodontic treatments. There are orthodontic treatment methods such as metal braces, clear braces, and aligners (clear aligners). The aligner (clear aligner) treatment is a digital orthodontic treatment method used to correct your teeth with nearly invisible, removable, custom-made series of aligners as an alternative to braces.

Clear aligners are also a technique for smile design. Without any reduction in your teeth, it gives you a natural smile by aligning your own teeth. Since you do not need frequent check-ups like with metal braces during the treatment, your teeth can be perfectly corrected with clear aligners while you continue your normal social life.

What is the Treatment Process of Aligners (Wireless Orthodontics)?

✓ Consultation: When your dentist confirms that you are suitable for treatment, they will take photos of your teeth, including X-rays and intraoral measurements. These records are used exclusively for creating your aligners. After your digital measurement is taken, aligners are produced according to the treatment plan obtained in the computer environment. Each aligner provides a 0.05 mm movement on the teeth.

✓ Aligners: Your custom-made aligners will be delivered to you on the same day along with the placement of attachments. If necessary, IPR (Interproximal Reduction) is also done during this session. You need to wear them for at least 20-22 hours every day (only removing them while eating) and change them yourself approximately every 2 weeks. These durations may vary depending on the condition of the patient’s teeth.

✓ Results: Regular follow-up sessions or video calls with your dentist will be conducted to monitor the progress. After completing your treatment plan, we ensure that the beautiful result is maintained with retainers

What are the Advantages of Aligners?

Aligners make your treatment process more comfortable compared to braces. If you have a social life, are constantly in the public eye due to your job, and do not find the appearance of braces suitable for your age, or do not want to get braces for a few crooked teeth, aligners are a perfect treatment option for you.

Unlike brackets, you can remove the aligners while eating and drinking, so there are no restrictions. In terms of oral hygiene, you will not face any problems as you can continue to use your toothbrush and dental floss normally. The pain and sores that occur during the adjustment period with brackets are not an issue with aligners. The appointment duration and frequency are less compared to braces, and you do not have to worry about brackets breaking.

You will not feel the need to remove them while taking photos at meetings or attending special events, and they will not bother you in your daily life. By using aligners, you will watch a simulation of how your teeth will be shaped and the treatment process, and see how your teeth will look at the end of the treatment. The time you spend in the clinic is significantly less.

If you are suitable for aligner use after your examination, only photos and intraoral scans will be taken from you. Your seat time is much shorter compared to fixed braces treatment. For special occasions (weddings, graduations, business meetings, etc.), you can remove the aligners for a few hours, taking a break from the treatment.

Clear aligner treatment is suitable for both teenagers and adults. There is no use of metal brackets and wires. After your treatment plan is created virtually, you have the opportunity to see the end of the treatment as a three-dimensional simulation. Moreover, you can observe the movement of your teeth step-by-step through the treatment plan in the virtual environment.

Aligner's FAQs

Aligners with Smile Design

You can brush your teeth after each meal by removing your aligners. You can comfortably perform your routine dental care (such as using dental floss, mouthwash). For the cleaning and maintenance of the aligners, it is recommended to wash them with water after each removal and insertion. You can clean your clear aligners under warm water with a toothbrush every morning and evening. Additionally, you can use denture cleaning tablets for the maintenance of your aligners.

When the size of the teeth does not match the size of the jaw, the teeth become crooked or spaced to fit into the jaw. Crooked teeth not only create an aesthetic problem but also mean hard-to-clean areas between the teeth. These hard-to-clean areas are prone to cavities. Therefore, orthodontic treatment for crooked teeth is done not only for aesthetic purposes but also to preserve health.

An aesthetic smile increases a person’s self-confidence. The healthiest treatment for properly aligned teeth is orthodontics. Additionally, the purpose of orthodontic treatment is not only to correct crooked teeth but also to create enough space for implants if a tooth is missing, to regulate the occlusal relationship before crowns, to facilitate breathing, and to eliminate chewing irregularities.

Attachments are applied to the tooth that needs to move or to the neighboring teeth to support different movements. They also help the aligner adapt better to the teeth. Made from tooth-colored filling material, attachments are typically 1-2 mm in size but can be larger in certain situations as determined by your dentist. They are not very noticeable unless looked at closely and are important auxiliary parts for treatment continuity. After the treatment, they are easily removed. The application is performed easily in the same session.

Interproximal reduction (IPR) is the process of filing the enamel in the proximal areas to create space for tooth movement. IPR is a safe and effective method for creating space for orthodontic tooth movement, especially in mild to moderate crowding cases, and is useful for treating crowding in the anterior segment and reshaping isolated teeth. It is not necessary for every patient and is mainly used in areas of intense crowding. It does not cause permanent sensitivity or damage to the teeth. If sensitivity occurs, it is expected to be temporary, and fluoride application can be done to strengthen the teeth.

Aligner plates are produced in series according to the desired position of the teeth. Each plate creates a movement of 0.03 to 0.05 mm. The plates are worn for 2 weeks and then moved on to the next plate. You can drink normal temperature or cold beverages, but it is recommended to remove them while drinking hot things like tea. Since clear aligners are thermoplastic, they can deform in heat. Regular use of clear aligners is crucial for the success of the treatment.

Clear aligner treatment is suitable for both adults and young people. However, whether you are suitable for clear aligner treatment can only be determined after an examination. Moderate and mild tooth crowding and orthodontic treatments that require tooth extraction can also be treated with clear aligners.

Clear aligner treatment can be applied to correct children’s teeth. However, for clear aligner treatment to be applied, your child must have lost all their baby teeth and at least partially erupted their second molars. This usually corresponds to around 12-14 years of age.

After your clear aligner treatment is completed (this applies to all orthodontic treatments), retainers are attached to the inside of your teeth to prevent any movement or regression, or retention plates are used. The duration varies according to the treatment.

Clear aligners do not contain Bisphenol-A or phthalates (BPA). Therefore, clear aligner treatment can be used during pregnancy, breastfeeding, etc.
